Dedicates Honour to Teachers Across Katsina State
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has received the Golden Award of Excellence for Education and Teacher Friendliness from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in recognition of his administration’s sweeping reforms in the education sector and unwavering commitment to teachers’ welfare.
The award was presented on Sunday at the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration held at Eagle Square, Abuja, where education stakeholders from across Nigeria gathered under the theme “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession.”
In his acceptance speech, Governor Radda noted that his government has allocated over 25% of the state’s budget to education over the last two years — a record investment that underscores his administration’s prioritisation of the sector.
“We have conducted a major recruitment exercise that was never done in this country, employing over 7,000 teachers at once,” he said. “We are now introducing rural incentives for our rural teachers to motivate them and give them the attention they deserve for the development of our nation.”
Governor Radda stressed that education is the foundation of national progress, emphasizing that “without teachers, there would be no nation and no Katsina State.”
He dedicated the award to all teachers in Katsina State, commending their resilience and dedication to nurturing future generations.
“On behalf of our government, colleagues, and all the students of our state, we thank the Nigeria Union of Teachers for their continued support and collaboration,” the Governor said.
In his welcome address, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, described collaborative teaching as a globally recognized strategy for improving learning outcomes.
Also speaking, Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, outlined the federal government’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen teacher collaboration through the National Teacher Development Policy (2022), the Digital Literacy and Skills Framework, and the promotion of Professional Learning Communities across schools.
NUT National President, Comrade Audu Titus Amba, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustaining the President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Award, and lauded governors who continue to support the observance of World Teachers’ Day.
Other awardees at the event included Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State.
Goodwill messages were also delivered by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, representatives of UNESCO, and the Director-General of NITDA.
Governor Radda’s administration has in recent years implemented comprehensive education reforms — including massive teacher recruitment, infrastructure development, professional training programmes, rural teacher incentives, and increased budgetary allocation to the education sector — all of which have positioned Katsina as a model for education revitalisation in Northern Nigeria.
